Senegal’s men’s football team is said to be busy practicing in Dakar for their debut at next month’s Summer Olympic Games in London, said Senegal Football Federation spokesperson Ndeye Thiouf.
“They are ready...we are in the middle of practicing a lot and working hard.”
This will be the team’s first chance to represent their country at the Olympic level, Thiouf said. “It’s true that this is the first time the Senegal team will participate in the Olympics, but there is a good group with quality. They don’t want to up the pressure to say they will come home with [a] gold [medal]…but at least this is the first time they will participate, and they can show the level of play Senegal is capable of.”
Besides the under-23 players, Thiouf said professional footballer Papiss Demba Sisse, who plays for Newcastle, will also join the squad along with two other older players.
The team plans to leave Senegal in early July and will meet up with Spain for a friendly match July 10th in preparation for the Olympic competition.
The West African team will face Britain, United Arab Emirates and Uruguay in its grouping.
