A provincial court yesterday called in for questioning the Banteay Meanchey province parents accused of chaining their daughter to a bench and turning her into an unwilling prostitute for Cambodians and foreigners.
“The police officials in town sent them to me, and I am preparing the document involved with them and questioning them again to see whether their answer is the same with the police report or not,” said Sith Los, Banteay Meanchey provincial Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection police chief.
Sith Los said that he will send them to court after he completes his questioning.
The parents have denied all the allegations, saying they kept the girl in the house for her own good. Her father, Nuth Meoun, has said she was sneaking out at night to hang with friends.
Sun Savuth, Poipet town deputy police chief, said yesterday he had questioned them and that two other people were suspected in the case, but he declined to comment further.
“There are two women whose involvement is suspected in this, but I cannot tell you because we are still investigating this case,” he said.
Savuth said the parents deny the accusations, and the girl continues to say her parents abused her and forced her to have sex with men.
Pen Pherom, investigation project officer for Cambodian Women’ Crisis Center [CWCC] in Banteay Meanchey province, said yesterday the girl wants to stay with CWCC.
“We will take the girl and look after her if the court does not bring charges in the case,” he said, adding she does not want to live with her parents.
