At least two military officials were killed and nine others injured when the truck they were travelling in crashed in Oddar Meanchey’s Anlong Veng district Wednesday afternoon, military officials said.
Touch Ra, chief of the Cambodian Thai border relations office at Chaom Sagnam International Border checkpoint told the Post yesterday that the officials were returning from inspecting the voter list in O’Kra Nhoung, five kilometres from the accident.
“The police report claims that the truck had problems with its gears while coming down from the mountain, the driver lost control and caused the truck to collapse,” Ra said.
One military official died instantly and another one died en route to the hospital, according to Ra, adding that at least six of the nine were seriously injured and have been taken to a hospital in Thailand for medical treatment.
He said the families of the victims have been informed and their military unit, 415, will hold a funeral to honour them.
