Mick Wade hits highs in low-scoring week

Coupled with the fact that not a single player hit the net more than once over the weekend, this meant scores from Gameweek 9 remained relatively low.

The best individual tally was a mere 12 points by Man United’s sensational summer signing Robin van Persie.

The Flying Dutchman’s dozen came from a goal and an assist against Chelsea, along with a star bonus of three points.

Fulham striker Bryan Ruiz also bagged a goal and an assist for 11 points — a total matched  by Arsenal playmaker Mikel Arteta, who scored the solitary winner against QPR, and Norwich defender Michael Turner, who netted his side’s equaliser at Aston Villa.

Our weekly competition was won by the fantasy powerhouse that is Mick Wade with his side Phnom Penh Villa. The 2010-11 season champion picked up 76 points and kept barely within our four-transfer rule to collect the $20 phone voucher and T-shirt from sponsors Cellcard.

Mick wisely brought in Man City’s Carlos Tevez to captain his team for 18 points, and contributions from Van Persie and Tottenham’s Gareth Bale (10) were also well judged.

Gameweek 10 plays out this weekend and opens with a clash between Man United and Arsenal. Liverpool and Newcastle United, Swansea City and Chelsea, and West Ham United versus Man City are also on offer.
