Introduction of knifeplay takes brawl to next level 
A backstabing friend was charged with intentionally injuring his
inebriated mate after a boozy night turned violent last week. The sozzled suspect was knocking back drinks with five friends when drunken argy-bargy turned inexplicably to bloodshed. The 21-year-old alleged knifer lunged at his victim, also 21, from behind with a knife, stabbing him in the back. The suspect was arrested the next day and charged at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Tuesday. Nokorwat

Fuel-toting moto goes up in a blaze of glory
Lead-footed driving was allegedly the cause of an explosive finale to a humble petrol merchant’s trade on Monday. The fiery turn of events began when the 30-year-old vendor was knocked by a truck driver while transporting 100 litres of fuel through Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district. The bike up-ended, and soon enough the accident scene was ablaze.  In typical fashion, the truck driver upped and left while the gasoline vendor was left to rue his burned-out moto. Nokorwat


Denied room for night, stranger burns house
A Kratie man was killed and his family house burned down after a vengeful stranger decided to punish the man’s father for not allowing him a bed for the night. The old man turned away the suspicious stranger after he turned up at the house, in Chet Borei dist-rict, on Wednesday. Pop suggested he stay at the village chief’s house instead, but his suspicions were proved correct when the irritated 
itinerant snuck back with petrol and set the house ablaze. The man’s 20-year-old son died from his injuries. Nokorwat

Tragic accident turns cheers to tears
A family birthday celebration turned to tragedy on Tuesday when a 30-year-old woman was killed by a bus as she crossed the road in Banteay Meanchey’s Ou’s Chrou district. The woman had just left a relative’s birthday party and was walking towards her husband, who was waiting in a taxi when the bus slammed into her, killing her instantly. Rasmei Kampuchea

Scene of the crime at question in moto theft
Police in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district were asked to pick sides in a row over a stolen moto after a guesthouse owner refused responsibility for the crime. An aggrieved guest alleged the bike was taken from within the guesthouse on Tuesday, while the owner argued crooks had nabbed the vehicle outside. The business owner reported his version of the crime to police, but the plod reckoned the guest’s was closer to the truth. Deum Ampil
