Websites aid in search for missing teen

The mysterious disappearance of 15-year-old Meas Bophea, who went missing from her family home in Kampong Speu province last Tuesday night, has attracted a tide of support on social media.

Yesterday, pictures of Bophea and pleas for information into her disappearance were retweeted by hundreds of people, including many from foreigners who read about her case on the expat website Khmer440.

A Facebook page was set up that includes a phone number to call as well as the email address of sexual abuse NGO Sao Sary Foundation.

A spokesperson for Sao Sary said it had not yet received a request for help from the family.

The teenager’s adoptive mother, Meas Bopha, said her daughter went to bed with her younger sisters on Tuesday, October 16, and was not there in the morning.

Bopha, a 50-year-old widow, has 11 other children and holds grave fears for Bophea.

The family live in Kong Pisei district’s Snam Krapoeu commune.

District police chief Chea Thy said his men are investigating.
