Running for a good cause will be the main theme on December 10, 2012 as the Maruhan Japan Bank Charity Fun Run fills up the track of Olympic Stadium.
The event, which is slated for a 7am start, aims to raise money for Pour un Sourire d´Enfant (PSE), an NGO helping underprivileged Cambodian youths obtain a place in the working world.
Founded in 1995, PSE has been working in the Kingdom providing food, shelter and education for maltreated, abused and uneducated children in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. Over 6,500 youngsters are currently being supported by the organisation.
The Fun Run will help raise funds for PSE by having participants gather pledges from friends and family based upon the number of laps they aim to complete on the day.
Each lap earns a badge and runners will be encouraged along the way to complete their target distance.
Entrance to the event is free with the deadline for registration on December 5.
“We want to invite everybody to join – men and women, young and old, active and lazy, locals and expats. If we all work together and run, we can help to get rid of poverty,” PSE director Sovan Ouk said.
The main sponsor for this event is Maruhan Japan Bank, a financial institution that has been involved in charity here since it started operations in Cambodia in 2008.
General manager Onishi Shizuo told the Post: “Our philosophy at the Maruhan Japan Bank is to make society a better place through every aspect of our company. So please put on your running shoes and join us at the Olympic Stadium.”
The bank also plans to sponsor a photo contest on Facebook, with prizes promised for the winners.
