2 Dead in Latest Tibetan Self-Immolation

A Tibetan rights group says two teenagers have died after setting themselves on fire in a Tibetan area of China, the latest in a series of self-immolation protests against Chinese rule.

Britain-based Free Tibet said in a statement the double self-immolation occurred late Tuesday in Ngaba, or Aba in Chinese. A 17-year-old boy identified as Rinchen and an 18-year-old named Sonam Dhargye, died at the scene.

Free Tibet director Stephanie Brigden says the self-immolations show that the suicide protests will likely "remain a feature of the Tibetan response to Chinese occupation in 2013."

More than 100 Tibetans have self-immolated since 2009 to protest what they say is Chinese repression of their culture. China denies the charges and says the suicide protests are acts of terrorism.
