STAMFORD, Conn. – A Zumbathon to support WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere), will be held May 18 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Stamford.
Tickets are $15 before May 18, and $20 at the door. The event runs from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the church at 120 Newfield Ave.
Half of the event proceeds will go to WAVE, which is a nonprofit grass-roots organization that initiates and supports programs and projects aimed to help lift women in Cambodia out of poverty and protect them from harm from physical attacks, rape and the threats of human trafficking and sexual slavery.
WAVE also provides scholarships for girls to attend college in Phnom Penh and seed funding for small business startups. WAVE is also seeking to build an early childhood learning center in a rural rice-farming community.
The workout will be led by Zumba instructors Linda Cicero of Norwalk, Franci and Sandra Torres of Stamford, and Alex Ackley, Michael Oxley and Pierre Fitzenberger of Bridgeport.
