Several international aid groups working in Kenya are warning that a critical funding shortage is threatening tens of thousands of lives at the world's largest refugee camp.
The group of eight aid agencies, including Oxfam and Save the Children, said in a statement that $25 million is needed to continue providing assistance to the 465,000 people at Kenya's Dadaab refugee complex. It said funds for vital services are set to run out in two to three months.
The population of the camp has continued to multiply during the past year, even though regional drought conditions have somewhat improved. But the aid groups warn that international funding for the camp has not kept pace.
Most of the refugees at Dadaab are Somalis who fled who fled their homes because of chronic conflict, poverty, and last year's severe drought.
