Cambodia will have a strong squad to boast of at the upcoming SEA Games after former France Under-21 futsal player Dani Kouch confirmed his participation.
The Build Bright United FC player choose to represent Cambodia despite being French-born and revealed the reasons behind his decision to Goal.
“First of all, the reason I joined my motherland's national team is to bring them up in the Fifa rankings,” he said.
“To me this will be a moment to remember, as I'll be back to play for my so-called family, meet my old friends and also embrace the nice and warming welcome from Cambodian football fans.”
The 23-year-old is optimistic Cambodia can produce a good showing at the SEA Games, given the availability of other players born outside of France and the potential of the youth players.
"Youth players here are always having good progress and developing; that will make the national team strong,” he reasoned.
“This year we have highly-rated half-French players like Thierry Chantha Bin and Kok Boris. They'll give us a boost and I'm sure we'll perform great in the SEA Games."
However, the Cambodian was under no illusion over which team would be the likeliest to win the tournament.
"But Thailand surely are favourites as they have always performed great in this competition," he predicted.
"They have fantastic players and I think they have what it takes to seal the gold medal."
