Cambodia returns from Mexico with heads high

Cambodia came in a respectable 32nd out of 43 competing nations in the men’s section of the 2012 Homeless World Cup, which wrapped up in Mexico City on Sunday.

In their 7th/8th place playoff of the De la Calle a la Cancha Cup (which translates as The Road to the Arena Cup), Cambodia lost 7-4 to Hong Kong.

Cambodia had lost 8-5 to both Argentina and the Philippines in earlier rounds of the trophy phase on Saturday, but their results in the secondary stage saw them finish above France, USA and Germany.

The Homeless World Cup title was claimed by Chile in a thrilling final against Mexico on Sunday evening.

The Chileans upset the hosts 8-5 in a packed-out stadium. In the preceding match, Mexico beat Brazil 6-2 to lift the women’s trophy.
