Cambodian junior trio head to Bangkok tennis academy

Three Cambodian juniors are heading to Bangkok tomorrow to train for a week at the prestigious Spin and Slice Tennis Academy, the owner of which,
Timo Sivapruksa, has been very supportive of Tennis Federation of Cambodia’s junior initiatives.

Two nine-year-olds, Nolane Tep and Leng Savinreach, along with 12-year-old Timothy Tep, will train up to five hours a day in two sessions.

They will be accompanied by TFC junior program coach Pov Pros, who will also be learning more about teaching techniques from the academy, which offers a range of services including private lessons, group lessons, tennis clinics and camps.

A typical day for the trainees will involve two hours of tennis in the morning followed by a lunch break and three hours of tennis in the evening session. There will be a fun workout at the end of each day.

The program includes lodging within the Academy complex and meals.

What is special about this adventure for the youngsters is that their parents are footing all the bills, with the TFC just playing the role of facilitator.

“I am very happy my son is going out for this camp in Bangkok. He loves tennis so much that he sleeps with his tennis racquet every night and I am happy to do whatever I can to support his tennis,” Leng Tong, father of Leng Savinreach, told the Post yesterday.

“The TFC is doing a good job but we as parents have also some responsibility and that is the reason why I do not mind spending some extra money on camps like this.”
