The seventh Faldo Series Asia Grand Final will be staged at the Mission Hills Golf Club in the Chinese city of Shenzhen from March 13-15 next year, an exciting piece of news for Seng Vanseiha, the only Cambodian golfer making it to this world amateur ranking event.
It is a dream opening for Seng Vanseiha, who finds himself in the midst of emerging talent drawn from a record schedule of 17 tournaments from 15 Asian countries.
The 17-year-old had a special invite to Mission Hills from the Faldo Series in line with Sir Nick Faldo’s avowed principle of giving every series event host nation a chance to be represented in the grand final. Cambodia staged its first Faldo Series tournament at the Angkor Golf Resort in Siem Reap during September this year.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for Seng Vanseiha at this stage of his career. I hope he can get the best out of it,” said Roger Hunt, former Australian amateur team captain who has been serving the Cambodian Golf Federation as an advisor for the past five years.
In a statement made available to the Post by Faldo Series CEO Tom Philips, Sir Nick Faldo said: “We look forward to once again providing a unique learning experience for the region’s young golfers.
“Last March, we saw Masamichi Ito of Japan claim his third Grand Final and Guan Tianlang, aged only 13, win the inaugural Mission Hills Trophy as the top finisher from China,” added the six-time Major winner, who will once again spend time with the competitors and play with the winners.
Chinese sensation Guan Tianlang has now gone on to qualify for the 2013 Masters Tournament.
“Mission Hills is proud to be a founding partner of the Faldo Series Asia, which was launched in 2006, and last year we extended that partnership through to 2016,” said Tenniel Chu, Vice Chairman of Mission Hills.
“It has always been Mission Hills’ vision to promote international goodwill through golf and youth golf development has always been central to that strategy. We see the Faldo Series at Mission Hills as an excellent platform for young golfers to develop their game and Guan Tianlang is a superb example of that.”
The Asia Grand Final will be played over 54 holes at the Faldo-designed course in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, less than 35 kilometres north of Hong Kong.
The 2012-2013 Faldo Series Asia featured four tournaments in mainland China, whilst making stops in the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan and Indonesia.
The Faldo Series Asia is supported by major partners ISPS, Mission Hills and world governing body The R&A, with official golf wear partner UFL and official suppliers TaylorMade and Tricor.
The series is endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Federation.
