Police Blotter: 1 Jan 2013

Looks can’t kill, but can almost get you killed
Two men in Kandal town nearly made the phrase “if looks could kill” a reality on Monday when they seriously injured a man they caught staring at them. Police said the allegedly dirty glance so enraged the men that they beat up the staring stranger to the point he needed to be hospitalised. A friend of the short-tempered suspects said the two had no history with the starer. Police are searching for the pair. Kampuchea Thmey

Buildings soar, but site relations crash down
Constructing buildings together doesn’t always mean building friendships in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district. Police said that for unknown reasons, two construction workers stabbed one of their colleagues with knives during their shift on Saturday. Other workers told police, who arrested the men and sent them to court. Their victim, 35, was sent to hospital. Koh Santepheap

Loaded, not locked – drunk almost loses bike
A drunk man’s motorcycle would have been an easy target for two thieves in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district on Saturday if neighbours had not intervened. Police said that in his inebriated state, the moto owner forgot to lock up his vehicle when he returned home. The thieves were sneaking away with the bike when nearby residents noticed and shouted for help. Police arrested the thieves immediately and sent them to court. Kampuchea Thmey

Breakneck chase loses woman her necklace
A 20-year-old thief was arrested after he and another suspect allegedly snatched a woman’s necklace in Phnom Penh’s Tuol Kork district on Saturday. Police said that while the woman was driving her moto, she noticed two men following her on another bike. They pursued her at breakneck pace, eventually catching her and snatching her necklace, causing her to crash. Police heard her shouts for help but were able to arrest only one suspect. Delivery on the nose, but police left sniffing
Police in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district smoked out two alleged drug deliverers and users on Saturday but failed to find the drugs. After sniffing around a guesthouse for more than a day, police burst in and seized some drug-puffing equipment and packing material, but said the suspects must have hidden their drugs. Police took the pair into custody.
