Drunken joyride ends in not-so-joyous arrest

A 47-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for stealing a motorbike from a teen and taking it on a joyride in Kampot province’s Chhouk district. Police said the 17-year-old had left his bike at a pagoda to drink cane juice when the suspect hopped on it and zoomed off. The victim shouted for help, alerting police, who overtook the suspect. The suspect’s mother claimed he had been drunk, wasn’t right in the head and just wanted to ride around for fun. Kampuchea Thmey

Two years on the lam proves too little in end

More than two years after allegedly injuring a policeman in Prey Veng’s Peam Chor district, a Vietnamese national with a warrant out for his arrest was hauled in on Tuesday. Police said that back in 2010, the man and several other Vietnamese nationals got into an argument at a party and ended up attacking one another. When police intervened, the suspect allegedly tried to wrest a policeman’s gun from him and injured him badly in the head and back before escaping. The suspect told police he thought they had forgotten the case. Koh Santepheap

Thieves go for broke when break-in fails

It is unclear whether two men in their twenties were seeking entertainment or profit when they broke into two homes in Phnom Penh’s Por Sen Chey district at night and stole a CD player and a mobile phone. But it’s clear they got neither when police arrested them in the act of breaking into a third house to steal a motorbike, and sent them to court. A third suspect managed to escape, and police are searching for him. Nokorwat

Three wasn’t the charm for these moto robbers

Police in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old man and his 20-year-old girlfriend, along with the man’s 29-year-old friend, who may well have been the third wheel in a motorcycle robbery two weeks ago. Police said the couple and the friend asked the motodop to drive them home, and when they reached an isolated place, they used a wooden stick to beat the driver unconscious and took his bike. The driver’s family complained to police, who eventually found the suspects.
