Table toppers tussle in MCL

The Metfone C-League entertains another full round of five fixtures this weekend, including a top of the table clash between leaders Boeung Ket Rubber Field and second placed Preah Khan Reach.

The match, scheduled for a 2pm kick-off tomorrow at Olympic Stadium, sees reigning champions Boeung Ket vie for their eighth straight victory in a flawless start to their title defence. The Kampong Cham outfit have netted just over four goals a game on average this season, while conceding just five in total.

National team striker Chan Vathanaka has been is top form for the champions, including bagging a brace of penalties in Wednesday’s 3-1 victory over Phnom Penh Crown.

PKR, meanwhile, have welcomed back with open arms the return from injury of hitman Khoun Laboravy, who scored both of their goals midweek against Ministry of National Defence.

The Military Police-backed team are still chasing an elusive league title but appear in good shape to qualify for the post-season playoffs known as the Super 4.

The later kick-off at 4pm tomorrow involves Crown and MCL newcomers Asia Europe University.

Crown will be keen to get their campaign back on track after two straight losses to the top two sides edged them out of the playoff spots.

The four-time winners of Cambodia’s top tier have struggled to compete with the front runners since the heady heights of making the AFC President’s Cup final in 2011, but a new manager in Samuel Schweingruber of Switzerland and several promising new signings, including French-Cambodian free-kick specialist Bin Thierry, have begun to turn things around for them.

Crown face an AEU team who have impressed in their debut season, notching up a win and three draws to sit two places above the relegation zone. The Preah Vihear-based club will most likely not be expecting a win but could cause enough trouble to frustrate another of the league’s heavyweights.

A 3pm kick-off at Old Stadium tomorrow is an early relegation battle between the two bottom-enders, Build Bright United and Senate Secretariat.

Sunday’s ties at Olympic Stadium has MND taking on high flying Kirivong Sok Sen Chey at 2pm before National Police Commissary lock horns with Hun Sen Cup holders Naga Corp at 4pm.
