KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Bank (Cambodia) Plc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hong Leong Bank Bhd, celebrated the opening of its first banking operations in Phnom Penh last Friday, allowing it to serve business and retail customers in Cambodia.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Hong Leong Bank Cambodia chief executive officer Joe Farrugia, Hong Leong Group executive chairman Tan Sri Quek Leng Chan, chairman of Hong Leong Bank Cambodia board of directors Raymond Choong, and joined by members of the bank’s board of directors and senior officers.

In attendance and presiding the opening ceremony was also Chea Chanto, governor of the National Bank of Cambodia.

Hong Leong Bank group managing director Tan Kong Khoon said in a statement: “We are very excited about establishing and building Hong Leong’s presence in Cambodia, and are pleased to play our part in the community we serve in.

“We will leverage our knowledge and expertise in the region and share the best practices that we have developed from our more-than-100-years banking experience in Malaysia. We are here to stay and committed to growing and contributing to the banking sector in Cambodia as well as its broader economy.”

Hong Leong Bank Cambodia will cement Hong Leong Bank’s legacy of meeting the evolving needs of customers and offering them a broad range of banking and specialised financial services in Cambodia.

The bank will be rolling out six highly relevant banking products – savings account, current account, remittance and basic treasury facilities, along with business and mortgage loans.

Hong Leong Bank Cambodia CEO Joe Farrugia added: “With our philosophy of value creation and commitment to local embedment, we will be able to provide the Cambodian community easy access to banking services that are progressive, relevant, bespoke and efficient.

“We want our customers in Cambodia to grow with us as we continue to expand our offerings, helping them with their financial needs.”
